Defensive gun use (DGU) weekly roundup
A collection of stories from March 15-22, 2026.
Alabama
Mobile: A judge sent a case to the grand jury after prosecutors argued that Rodney Davis, Jr should be charged with the felony murder of his cousin, Javeli Alexander, after the two attempted to rob a man at gunpoint. The victim was armed himself and he and the two robbers exchanged gunfire, leaving the victim wounded and Alexander dead. Though the victim fired the shot that killed Alexander, prosecutors argue that Davis is responsible for his death because he was involved in the crime that led to his death.

Rancho Cordova: I don’t know why people who are caught trying to break into homes think that somehow they can still break and climb into in a window before the armed homeowner warning them to leave shoots them, but it didn’t work out for this man any better than it has for those before him. He apparently had threatened to kill one of the people living in the home, but when he tried to break in they called police, while telling him multiple times to leave. Instead of leaving, he broke a window to get inside, and shockingly, the armed homeowner shot him instead of letting him climb in. He was medically cleared and jailed in “Felony Burglary and Threats charges.”

Athens: In this case, unfortunately a lot of bad was done before the GGWAG arrived on the scene, but he did at least get the suspect to leave the house so he could be arrested. George Mulligan assaulted and raped his wife, who eventually called her son for help. When the son arrived, Mulligan went outside to meet him and pointed a gun at the son, who then “pulled out his own gun and fired in self-defense.” The shot went over Mulligan’s head, but it made Mulligan flee into the woods, where police arrested him, charged him with raping and assaulting his wife, and are holding him without bail.
