Defensive Gun Use weekly roundup
12 more DGU stories from approximately March 1 to March 8.
Welcome to another weekly roundup. The need for firearms never ends. Special thanks to Mrs. Good Guy with a Gun for a lot of the write-ups here.
Connecticut
Darien: It was only 6 AM when a family was disturbed by three masked people — at least one with a handgun — started rummaging around on their porch. They called 911, but with two small children inside, they weren’t taking chances. The masked trio found a key and tried to enter the home, and the homeowner shot at them. The three fled. Later, a juvenile who had a gunshot wound arrived at the hospital. They found a vehicle that the three had stolen from a different home.
Primary source: Darien police.
Florida
Boca Raton: A robbery victim allegedly fired his gun in self-defense when he was confronted and robbed by two men while he was walking home from, well, Target. (No, that’s not actually funny. I just think it is.) As he was assaulted, he claimed that he got his firearm out of his backpack and fired, shooting 21-year-old Ca’vanteavis Guy. Witnesses say the three men exchanged gunfire, and as the two robbers fled, Guy was seen taking a firearm from a bag and video shows him discarding a stolen iPhone before being apprehended. He’s now “accused of robbery with a firearm and a weapon offense.”
Illinois
Chicago: A guy invaded someone’s garage and got shot. But that’s not what annoys me about this story: It’s that everyone mentions that he has a CCL, without noting that that’s completely irrelevant with respect to someone’s right to defend himself in his home — even in Chiraq.
