A party turned deadly just before 11 PM Saturday when an argument broke out. A man pulled a gun and shot another man — a boyfriend of one of the guests — leaving him in critical condition.

Another partygoer who was armed then drew his own gun and shot the first shooter, who was taken to a hospital and died.

The second shooter walked into a nearby sheriff’s station to surrender. He was interviewed and released. Investigators are still working to determine whether the shooting qualifies as self-defense.

Around 10:30 PM on a Friday night, a woman stepped inside her home to charge her phone and found a stranger inside — armed with a shotgun he’d found in the house. Ismael Martinez, 45, allegedly tried to shoot her as she ran into the garage, where she warned her husband that someone was inside.

Her husband, identified by neighbors as Chris, rushed in to reach his teenage daughter, who was inside the home. Martinez fired at him, so Chris returned fire, fatally wounding the intruder, and got his daughter out of the house.

Deputies arrived to find Martinez dead. The break-in was entirely random — Martinez had no prior connection to the family. Earlier that evening, Martinez had assaulted his 52-year-old girlfriend with a knife nearby; she was found injured in a vehicle and taken to a hospital in stable condition. The DA’s office reviewed the case and referred it for standard review; no charges were filed against Chris at the time of writing.

A couple found themselves in a road rage confrontation serious enough that they opened fire on the other driver in self-defense. On Saturday, June 6, a woman called 911 to report that a man with a gun was pursuing their car. According to her, he had started to tailgate them until they stopped at a red light—at that point he pulled up alongside them, yelled at them and brandished a gun. When the light changed, they tried to drive away but he kept pulling up next to them. At one point the couple thought they heard gunshots, so the husband took out his gun and fired at the crazy guy with the gun in the other car.

After several turns trying to escape him, the crazy driver’s car veered off the road. The couple pulled over and waited for law enforcement.

It turned out that the crazy road rage guy with a gun was a drunk idiot with an airsoft. There were several bullet holes in his car, including one through the windshield, but he was unscathed except for a possible graze injury to his head. He might have been a drunk idiot, but he was a lucky drunk idiot.

Well, until he was charged with DUI, reckless driving, and felony menacing.
