Good Guy with a Gun #130: San Antonio, TX (free post)
Original incident: March 9, 2024. It's an ax attack. Want to hear what happened? Yeah, so do I.
These posts are based on our Good Guy with a Gun calendar. If you bought or received a calendar, contact me for a complementary subscription. Today’s post is essentially the same as the calendar version.
I can only find one version of this incident on the Internet. Maybe you’re a better researcher than I am: I’ll send a free calendar to the first person who finds another news article or primary source about it. [UPDATE: Claimed!]
Here’s a complete, exact copy1 of that story:
Ax attack interrupted with warning shot
A man attacks another with an ax while a samaritan shoots at the ground to stop the assault.
San Antonio police officers were dispatched to the Dignowity Hill neighborhood just after midnight Saturday night for an attack with an ax.
To stop the attack, a good samaritan shot their firearm into the ground.
Officers arrived and arrested the ax-wielding suspect.
It’s an ax attack, for crying out loud. Don’t you want to know more?
Was anyone wounded? Was it a home invasion, on the street, or in a park? Why did the guy have an ax? Were there signs of mental illness or drug use? Why was the Good Samaritan there? Did he know either the victim or the assailant? Did the victim and assailant know each other?
What actually, you know, happened?
And how many defensive gun uses (DGUs) like this do you think go without any mention at all in the press?
As I’ve said many times already — and we’re just getting started — the Good Guy with a Gun isn’t a myth, he’s just underdocumented.

I believe that my use of this article falls under Fair Use because its complete contents are precisely what I’m commenting on, and although this represents the entirety of this one article, it’s only a tiny fragment of News4SA’s complete work.

You'd think this would be unusual enough news to warrant more coverage, for sure! It sounds horrifying.
Here is a tad bit more information. https://www.kens5.com/article/news/local/two-suspects-involved-in-alleged-assault-of-man-with-handheld-axe-san-antonio-east-side/273-33ef673e-3fd0-4ecb-a668-d6fe9d05c12f
Interestingly, there was another "hatchet" attack that same day among some homeless people in San Antonio. No GGWAG in that incident, but I thought it was interesting -- I mean, how often do we read about attacks with an ax or a hatchet!
