Two men from San Francisco — Charles Calloway and David Washington, both 39 — drove to East Oakland on the night of March 15, 2024. They forced their way through the back door of a home around 10:30 PM.
The homeowner shot Calloway dead. The shooter was wounded in the foot. Washington ran.
The shooting was ruled a justifiable homicide. Nevertheless, someone was charged with murder: Washington, ten days later, when he was arrested in San Francisco.
Yes, murder, not just burglary.
“But wait,” you might say. “Washington didn’t shoot anyone. The homeowner did.”
