Good Guy with a Gun #144: Charlotte, North Carolina (Free post)
What was the DA thinking? Frankly, we don't know. | Original incident: March 24, 2024

Good guys with guns put a stop to violent attackers every day. Yet we often know very little about what they went through. What did the aggressor do? What did they see?
At 1 AM on a Sunday morning, what happened on Arvin Drive in north Charlotte?
We can guess that it was a home invasion, based on what Google Maps shows us. But even that’s not certain.
The only things we know are that 35-year-old Ramon Azular III was shot to death, and that the Charlotte-Mecklenburg PD and the DA said that the shooting was justified.
So many defensive gun uses (DGUs) happen without anyone knowing anything about them.
All we know? Some good guy or gal with a gun stepped up when it mattered.
Sources
This is so thin that it’s tough to say much about our sources.
There’s a primary source from CMPD, but honestly, I wouldn’t know it was about this case if not for a link from WBTV 3.
Queen City News, WSOC TV-9, and the Charlotte Observer all covered it as well.
Several of these sources gave the story airtime, but there was nothing new in them.
Charlotte Alerts News also covered it, but I have to warn you that their follow-up screamed, “MAN MURDERED IN NIGHT EARLY A.M. SHOOTING”. The all-caps is just their style, but the use of “murder” in this situation indicates a journalistic weakness to me.
