Good Guy with a Gun #156: Redlands, CA
You have a legal gun. You shoot in self-defense. You cooperate with police. But you’re still the “suspect;” your assailant is the “victim.” Welcome to California. | Original incident: April 5, 2024

Sometimes the news gets things badly wrong. In this case, all of the news sources (along with other sources) have reversed the roles of “victim” and “suspect.”
Let’s look at the Fontana Herald News. The story reads:
According to witnesses and investigation, the victim confronted the suspect on Park Avenue south of Redlands Boulevard and a physical altercation occurred. During the altercation, the suspect fired several shots, wounding the victim.
But who confronted whom? If the “victim’s” confrontation of the “suspect” resulted in a physical altercation, then the “victim” was the aggressor. More: The shooter’s handgun was legal, and he was detained by police and then released.
Contra the news, it looks like the shooter was the victim, using justified force, and he shouldn’t be called a “suspect.”
