This one is very sad. You hear so many times that family have tried to get help for a mentally ill person and the help just isn't there. We've decided it's "discriminatory" or something. I know that hospitals/homes for the mentally ill can be awful places (I've visited one), but they don't have to be. If you love people, you want them to be well and if they can't get well you want to keep them -- and others -- safe. I suppose this man will go to prison for a while, and he'll come out worse than ever . . . None of that to mitigate the awfulness of what he did and how terrifying it must have been for his victim and family. Thankfully he was armed to defend himself from worse.
100%. It was tragic, really. And you have to wonder if charging him with attempted murder is the right move. But if he won't be prevented from harming other people, then he needs to be locked up _somehow._
