He was charged with murder. Detectives kept digging. Then vindication: “His story was vastly different than what we initially thought.” | Original incident: May 4, 2024
To be honest, I'm surprised he was vindicated in IL, which we call "the republic of" . . . They are so woke that I'd assume they'd just "get" the guy and let it go at that. So kudos to this particular department for doing the right thing.
First, I think this story shows that there can be very good people working within lousy systems, and that can help us get to the right outcomes.
Second, I wouldn't suggest that "woke" would get this guy locked up unjustly. The pattern for woke prosecutors and judges is that black people aren't prosecuted _enough_.
For example, I could see a really bad woke outcome for this story: They basically believed he must be guilty -- the bigotry of low expectations -- so they didn't investigate properly, so he was never vindicated, and then was released with a wrist-slap. That would still be better than him being convicted or forced to take a plea and then locked up unjustly (for longer than he was), but it's still a really horrible outcome.
It's late, and I'm rambling, but I hope you get what I mean.
That makes sense. I missed that he was black and assumed he was not. It's definitely true that there are good people in many places that are otherwise terrible, and I'm certainly glad of that.
Thanks for the Mother's Day wish! The same to Mrs. GGWAG!

Happy mother's day, Beth! :)
I've been mulling on your comment.

To be fair to you, I didn’t say he was black. You’d only know that from the mug shots, which I didn’t post.
Ah, well, I feel vindicated . . . :)
