Good Guy with a Gun #214: Chicago, IL
A Chicago homeowner shot a burglar at 1 AM. The news helpfully noted he had a CCL. (He was in his own home.) | Original incident: June 2, 2024
These posts are based on our Good Guy with a Gun calendar. Today’s post is essentially the same as the calendar version.
Yes, we’ve got two Chicago stories in a row. And with both stories, the news tells us that the shooter is a CCL holder — even though the incident took place in his home, so CCL doesn’t matter. I’m guessing that pretty soon Chicago will tell us that we should really have permits to carry inside our homes, too.
But I digress.
At about 1 AM on a Sunday morning, a 50-year-old man tried to break into a home in the Chatham neighborhood of Chicago.
The homeowner, however, was a gun owner — a Concealed Carry License holder, in fact, though did I mention that it doesn’t matter inside his own home? — and he confronted the invader and shot him.
The invader went to the hospital for his injuries and was listed in critical condition.
That’s all we know. For a city that desperately wants to keep its people disarmed, they sure don’t seem to report a lot of information about the defensive use of firearms. Maybe they just don’t want people to know how frequently their citizens need to engage in the judicious use of gun violence.

Shootings in Chiraq are so common that WLS 7 posted an article headlined, “Chicago shootings: At least 19 shot, 2 fatally, in weekend gun violence across city, police say”. It includes this shooting and the one from yesterday.
WLS 7 also covered the incident in a standalone article.
Block Club Chicago took note of three Chicago CCL incidents that weekend, this and yesterday’s each being one of them — though did I mention that you don’t need a CCL inside your own house?
Fox 32 covered the incident as well.
