Good Guy with a Gun #229: Uniontown, PA
The NO LOITERING sign worked about as well as the prohibited possessor law. At least the victim’s gun was effective. | Original incident: June 17, 2024
These posts are based on our Good Guy with a Gun calendar. Today’s post is essentially the same as the calendar version.
Uniontown, Pennsylvania is a town of about 10,000 people situated forty miles southeast of Pittsburgh. If you go down to Connellsville Street, you’ll see exactly what you think you would: a gas station, a Dollar General, lots of houses, a school.
And a Byers Market, open 7 days. There’s a big “NO LOITERING” sign out front.

We don’t know why either Joshua Kiss or Douglas Lewis were there at 10:30 AM that Monday morning.
We do know that Kiss wasn’t allowed to have a gun — he was later charged with prohibited possession of a weapon — and that he nevertheless fired a gun at Lewis, striking him in the right calf. Lewis shot back, striking Kiss in the lower leg.
Surveillance footage captured the event, leading police to charge Kiss with multiple felonies, and Lewis with none at all.
Sources
I can only find one source, with two stories: The Herald-Standard. Here’s the original incident with almost no detail and a follow-up that gives as much as I think we’ll get for this incident.
Maybe Uniontown isn’t big enough to get much coverage.
