Good Guy with a Gun #283: Phoenix, AZ
No matter how good your local PD is, their response time isn’t good enough to handle a “teenager” at 5 AM. | Original incident: August 10, 2024
These posts are based on our Good Guy with a Gun calendar. Today’s post is essentially the same as the calendar version.
Even the Phoenix PD can’t quite verify who got shot in this one.
I mean, they probably can, but it never made the news. Here’s what we know:
Officers responded to a shots-fired call in west Phoenix just after 5 AM on a Saturday.
They found a man who said he’d just been the target of an attempted armed robbery.
He’d produced his own gun and shot the man trying to rob him.
While officers were still out looking for a suspect, a teenager called them himself to say he’d been shot.
Police connected him to the robbery — but wouldn’t say how.
Was he another victim? An accomplice? The robber himself? All are still on the table.
The teen was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released. No arrest had been made at the time of the single news report describing this incident, and the investigation was still open.
Regardless of the status of the teen, we know one thing for sure: The Good Guy with a Gun defended himself at a time when there’s no way a cop could have helped him.
