Two vehicles pulled up outside a house in north Tulsa around seven on a Tuesday evening, and five people got out. The homeowner knew at least one of them: he and Marco Richardson, 47, had a feud running, and police said afterward it had already put the two of them face to face more than once.
Tulsa police Capt. Richard Meulenberg described the rest of it.
“About five individuals came on to the homeowner’s property and kind of rushed him and pinned him up against his car and started to assault him. With overwhelming odds against him he did pull a pistol out and started firing.”
Officers found Richardson lying in the driveway with a gunshot wound to the chest. He died at the hospital a short time later.
Richardson’s 31-year-old son had been shot too — he went to a hospital in critical condition.
Police said at the time that they weren’t looking for anyone else in connection with the case. Two of the five who got out of those vehicles were shot; I can’t find a record of anything happening to the other three.
Anthony Hall, the homeowner’s older brother, gave FOX23 some of the history.
“There was some guys that kept coming around him and when he got off work they’d be messing with him and stuff like that. Evidently that’s what had happened, they did it again and I told them don’t mess with my brother.”
The homeowner went downtown, answered police officers’ questions, handed over the pistol, and was released pending further investigation — but the police called it a self-defense homicide.
Hall’s read on it was simple enough. “I’m sorry for that family, and whatever is going on with them, but I told them not to mess with him. They kept doing so it just escalated from there.”
“I don’t want bad things to happen like that,” he said, “but a person have to respect someone in their own dwelling. You can’t just run over them.”
