Good Guy with a Gun #33: Amarillo, TX
Original incident: December 4, 2023. Why would anyone kick in a door in Texas?
This is the kind of content featured in the 2026 Good Guy with a Gun one-page-per-day desk calendar.
We have a pretty straightforward story for you tonight.
In Amarillo, Texas, just before midnight on a Monday evening, Jose Roberto Gutierrez-Torres kicked in someone’s door.
That someone was armed.
As the police later said, “The homeowner, in an act of self-defense, shot Gutierrez-Torres.”
The resident called 911, and the police found Gutierrez-Torres lying in the driveway. He died at the scene.
The homeowner was interviewed and released.
As is so often the case, we know almost nothing about any of the people involved. The good guy with a gun isn’t a myth — he’s just undocumented.

I count eight outlets that covered this story. They were all essentially the same, though I’m happy to say that some of them gave the story airtime as well.
Fox 42, WGME 13, KVII in OKC, KFDA 10, 12 News, KOMO, CBS 4 Local, and My High Plains. I didn’t see any 2A community pickup of this event.
That thing that never happens, happens every day.
