Nadarius Joiner was not a good man. He had been convicted of armed robbery in 2018, in a case that started with a game of dice.

A group had gathered at an apartment to play, and Joiner lost money that night to one of the other players. A jury convicted Joiner of robbing that player at gunpoint with two other men. He was sentenced to serve “seven years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.” The Court of Appeals upheld the conviction in 2019.

Yet, in October 2023, a Nadarius R. Joiner was booked in Tunica County on charges of burglary and burglary of an inhabited dwelling house. Are we 100% sure it’s the same guy? No, but it sure seems likely. And that’s only five years served on a seven-year sentence.

And here he was again, less than a year after that, breaking into a Tunica apartment at 1 AM on a Friday.

The 46-year-old man who resided there exchanged gunfire with Joiner. The resident was hurt and was flown to a hospital in Memphis. Joiner died at the scene.

The sheriff’s office said, “Homeowners have a constitutional right to protect their homes once a person gains entrance.”

I can’t find anything on how the resident came through it, and I wish him well. He finished what three trips through the court system didn’t.
