These posts are based on our Good Guy with a Gun calendar. Today’s post is somewhat updated from the calendar version.
In 2007, a 19-year-old named Gregory Lee Grant was charged in Richmond County with felony child molestation.
A 14-year-old girl’s father had woken up to find him in the living room with his daughter, both of them undressed from the waist down. Grant ran from the house, and police caught him at another home in the neighborhood. I couldn’t find how that charge turned out.
Seventeen years later, two people were sitting in the front of a Nissan Sentra in Augusta, around 3 on a Tuesday afternoon, when a man came up, pointed a gun at them, and demanded the car.
There was a brief fight. The carjacker got one of them in a headlock and put the gun to his head.
Then the victim’s brother shot the carjacker.
Deputies found the carjacker lying on the ground with an injury to his left foot. He was very agitated and seemed, to the deputies, to be in an alternate state of mind. EMS took him away.
He was Gregory Lee Grant Jr., 36. Do I know absolutely that it’s the same guy? No. But the ages fit, the location fits, and the first, middle, and last names fit. I know where I’d place my bets.
Grant was arrested the next day on five counts of felony criminal attempt and one of possession of a firearm or knife during a crime, and booked into the county jail.
And today’s Good Guy with a Gun story is a twofer, too! Earlier, he’d approached a woman sitting in her own Sentra, pulled out a gun, and demanded she give him the car. She pulled out a weapon of her own, and he walked away.
She gave him the chance to quit for the day. He didn’t take it.
